Event and Street Closure permitting

Event and Street Closure permitting

There are three primary permits for holding events in the city of Waldport. Please ensure that ALL permits required are submitted at least 30 days before your event. Failure to plan on your part will not constitute an emergency on ours.

The permits are:

Special Event Permit - needed if you are holding an event which uses public property, overflows a specific commercial space, or will create an undue burden on your neighboring establishments. It is also required if you host an outdoor event in which alcohol is served.
(examples: A business opening happening within the confines of the business or business property would NOT need a permit. However, if an entity wanted to close their parking lot, and have the event outdoors, with noise or extra foot traffic, an event permit is appropriate.)

Street Closure Permit - needed if you are holding an event in which you intend to use either half or the full public right of way and roadway within the city. You are required to get signed permission from all adjacent businesses and homes prior to issuing the permit. This permit requires a Special Event Permit as well.
(examples: A business wishes to hold a car show in their street parking area, limited only to one side of the street would require a permit. A business closing their parking lot off would not, instead only requiring a Special Event permit.

Parade Permit - Needed if you are planning on having a parade or group of vehicles impeding the normal flow of traffic in a coordinated manner.
(examples: Beachcombers historically in Waldport is the prime example of this, though by no means is exclusive. Importantly, events celebrating a teams victory or other event, even if streets are not closed should submit this permit request. The Fire Department can drive is a prime example of needing this permit.)

Garage sales, Business sidewalk sales, and foodcart merchants do NOT need an event permit, as long as they do not close parking or fully block a sidewalk pathway.
