Funding Secured for Water Tanks

Water Tank

Press release

The City of Waldport is grateful to announce that through the efforts of our State Representative David Gomberg and Senator Dick Anderson, the City will be the recipient of nearly $2.2 Million in directed funding for a water tank rehabilitation and replacement project.

The funds, a mixture of funds from both the state capital construction budget but also the dedicated funds allocated to each state legislator for their districts.

“We greatly appreciate that our state leadership not only recognized the critical need of our City, but that they took special effort to allocate American Rescue Plan funding directly to these projects among the many competitive and compelling projects district wide. Their commitment to Waldport is incredible.” said Greg Holland, the Waldport Mayor.

The projects combined for $2,175,000 were both identified as very high priority projects in the recent 20 year city Water Master Plan.  They seek to address the significant degradation of the City’s large reservoir tank due to a poor re-coating years prior (the city recently won a lawsuit against the contractor) while also upgrading the seismic resiliency overall, as well as building a smaller secondary tank to allow for redundancy should either system need to be taken offline.

“Being able to make, store and serve clear clean water is the core mission of a water provider. These funds provide security for the next 20 years for a leg of that triangle.” - City Manager Dann Cutter offered.

The City anticipates starting work on these projects in the fall.

Waldport is a small coastal city in the southern area of Lincoln County. They serve over 1400 households and businesses with water, along the beautiful Alsea river and bay. Each year ten of thousands of Oregonians visit and recreate in the community to enjoy its wonderful beaches and forested trails, its amazing crabbing and sports fishing, and its growing downtown shopping and restaurants.
