Wave Energy Test Site Update

Construction of the shoreside components of the Oregon State University (OSU) PacWave South wave energy test site is scheduled to start in June 2021. Most of the activity will be focused on the Driftwood Beach State Recreation Site area in Seal Rock.

The project involves horizontal directional drilling beneath the ocean shore to pass subsea cables deep under the beach to the park. The project will not disturb the beach but will temporarily close the Driftwood Beach State Recreation Site to motor vehicles. Information about the park is online at http://bit.ly/driftwoodbeachoregon.

OSU and the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department (OPRD) will be holding two Virtual Town Hall Meetings using Zoom to provide updates on the project and talk about what will be happening during construction. Both meetings will include a public Q&A session.

The Virtual Town Hall Meetings will be held on May 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Details of the meetings and how to attend will be available under Construction Updates on the PacWave website (http://pacwaveenergy.org/).
